About 1StopKYC

1StopKYC provides KYC verification and compliance solutions. They build APIs for document verification, identity checking, and compliance workflows. The backend challenges involve handling sensitive data securely and at scale.

Round 1: Coding Round

Format: 60-minute HackerRank assessment Problems: Rate limiter, caching system with TTL

The coding round had two problems: implement a rate limiter (medium) and design a caching system with TTL (medium). I implemented both with proper error handling and explained the trade-offs of different approaches.

What they were testing: Backend programming skills and ability to design common backend patterns. They wanted to see if I could implement practical solutions with proper error handling.

No interviewer - this was a self-paced assessment.

Round 2: Database Round

Format: 45-minute video call Interviewer: Senior Backend Engineer Duration: 40 minutes

The database round was the most challenging. The interviewer asked about indexing strategies and when to use them, transaction isolation levels, database normalization vs denormalization, and query optimization techniques. The practical exercise was to design a database schema for a KYC verification system with proper indexing and relationships.

What they were testing: Database expertise, understanding of performance optimization, and ability to design secure data models. They wanted to ensure I could handle the data requirements of KYC systems.

Interviewer approach: Technical and detail-oriented. He focused heavily on performance implications and security considerations, testing depth of database knowledge.

Round 3: API Design Round

Format: 60-minute whiteboard discussion Interviewer: Backend Tech Lead Duration: 55 minutes

The API design question was:

"Design a REST API for document upload and verification. Consider security, validation, and async processing."

I designed endpoints with proper HTTP methods, status codes, authentication (JWT), rate limiting, and asynchronous processing for document verification.

What they were testing: API design skills, security awareness, and ability to handle asynchronous workflows. They wanted to see if I could design secure and scalable APIs.

Interviewer approach: Security-focused and comprehensive. He emphasized authentication, authorization, and data validation, testing security-first thinking.

Round 4: HR Round

Format: 30-minute discussion Interviewer: HR Manager Duration: 25 minutes

The HR discussion focused on data security awareness, compliance mindset, and attention to detail — all critical for KYC operations.

What they were testing: Cultural fit, security awareness, and alignment with 1StopKYC's compliance-focused culture. They wanted to ensure I understood the importance of data security and regulatory compliance.

Interviewer approach: Professional and compliance-focused. She explained 1StopKYC's regulatory environment and tested whether I took compliance seriously.

The Insider Insight

1StopKYC values security-first thinking. Every technical decision has security implications. If you're designing a database, they want you to think about data encryption at rest. If you're designing an API, they want you to consider authentication and authorization from day one.

Compensation

The offer was ₹14 LPA base with a 25% performance bonus, totaling around ₹18 LPA. For Bangalore in 2025, this is competitive for backend roles at fintech/regtech companies.
